When your baby has mastered or has grown comfortable with eating rice cereal mush and slurping down squashed spinach, they are ready to be introduced to a wider world of tastes and textures with stage 3 baby food. Starting at 8 months old and above, your baby can start eating chunkier and more textured foods, either chopped into fine pieces or mashed. Your baby can now experience what is soft, hard, and chewy on a daily basis.

Stage 3 Baby Food Ideas

A growing diet for your baby means having soft yet chunky options and finger foods. This helps jaw development, gum growth, and letting your baby learn more about food and the eating experience. Some recommendations include finely flaked fish in sauce, cooked minced chicken or beef with mashed vegetables, small pasta pieces in cheese sauce, and cottage cheese.

For finger foods, you can prepare a variety of foods for them to choose from, which other family members can enjoy, too. Sliced hardboiled eggs, wholegrain crackers or biscuits, organic fruit slices, and toasted bread strips are some examples.

DIY Stage 3 Baby Food

Cauliflower with Swede or Alternative like Patola served with Rice

For a single-serving time meal, prepare 2 teaspoons brown rice, ¼ cup of cauliflower chopped and ¼ cup of another choice of your vegetable mixed with ¾ cup water.

Creamy Chicken Spice

If you sense that your baby is feeling adventurous, this dish incorporates Herbes de Provence, a mild blend of spices that introduces your baby to more exciting flavors without adding salt.

Carrot and White Fish Mix with Leek Puree

This combination is a brain-boosting savory dish. White fish includes omega-3 fatty acids that help boost development of your baby’s central nervous system. Leeks provide cardiovascular support and carrots are loaded with antioxidants.

Prepare 75 ml of water, 100 grams of filled white fish, salt to taste and 50 grams of leeks (depends on your taste). For toddlers, organic milk is an alternative to water. Boil the ingredients and simmer for 10-15 minutes until tender. Then smash the fish, leeks and carrots to have a puree. Serve it warm.

Beef or Lamb with Apple

Try this delicious combination of fruit and meat, an excellent source of iron, B vitamins and vitamin C. Get your ingredients ready: 200 grams of lamb or beef, 1 grated apple, 100ml unsweetened apple juice, 1 small courgetti, a large pinch ground cinnamon and a half teaspoon of dried tarragon.

Cook the minced lamb or beef in its own fat until it has browned. Then place the mince to the pan and add grated apple, courgetti, and juice. Simmer, stir, cover, and cook for 15 minutes. Add the cinnamon and tarragon, stir and continue to simmer for 5 minutes. Blend to remove large lumps and serve with 2 teaspoons of brown rice or mashed potato.

Conclusion

If your baby is ready for stage 3 baby food, learn to get well acquainted with the right mix of fruits, vegetables, texture, and the hardness of food that’s suited for his preferences. Know what he likes and doesn’t like. Always consult with the pediatrician in case there are food sensitivities and allergies. Last but certainly not least, use fresh and all-natural ingredients to make delicious food that will give them the best nutrition possible!
