July 28, 2018, Saturday – The afternoon was a wholesome learning session for all parents and Healthy Options members who attended the Feed Your Kids Smart Nutrition Workshop at our flagship store in Shangri-La Plaza Mall.

Our special guest speaker was Amanda Barnes, RDN, a registered dietitian and nutritionist, who has worked with Whole Foods Market in the US. As an expert on nutrition and diet, Amanda shared insights on the following topics: how to encourage healthy eating habits, tips on meal planning and preparation, key nutrients important for proper brain and physical development in children, among others.

How can you be sure that you are feeding your kids smart? Amanda highlights the importance of having a variety of wholesome foods in a child’s diet like lean protein, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables, sharing ideas on how to prepare meals that are both healthy and delicious. Tip: Keep your child’s plate colorful!

Parent attendees also shared a few of their personal struggles and challenges – some parents have trouble feeding their kids vegetables and fruits, while others have a hard time establishing proper eating habits in distracted kids. Tips given by Amanda helped parents understand what they’re doing wrong and how they can improve. She encouraged parents to sneak in the “good stuff”, teaching them how this can be done quickly and effortlessly, without their kid knowing! Although it may sound difficult, it’s completely possible with just a little patience and determination, and of course, easy access to a wide variety of organic and all-natural food!

To help parents get a head start, Amanda shared a meal plan she created especially for kids and even conducted a special cooking demo to show how to easy and simple it is to create healthy, nutrient-dense meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner that children (and parents!) will love.

By the end of the workshop, all attendees took home a special gift bag from Healthy Options worth P1,000, plus a 7-day meal plan created by Amanda herself. How’s that for a great afternoon?
